As puppies are born without teeth, they have to teeth just like human so that they can chew on solid food. Therefore, puppy teething is a process in which new teeth starts to appear. It’s part of the life of every puppy and every puppy has to go through this when they are growing up. When puppy start to teeth, just like our babies, there will be some kind of teething symptoms shown up on your puppies. The obvious symptoms such as chewing and swollen gum are the very first sign of your puppy teething. If you are worried about your puppies when they start to teeth and the teething process tend to get serious, you can bring them to visit a veterinarian.

The teething process for puppy happens much earlier than human being. The teething process starts as early as 3 to 4 weeks of age for most of the breed of puppies. The first tooth that appears during puppy teething is the baby canines tooth. The baby canines tooth is the longest tooth on each side in the front of the mouth. After that, at around 4 to 6 weeks of age, the incisors which is the tiny teeth at the front and the premolars (the larger side teeth) will begin erupting. By the age of 8 weeks, the teething process should come to an end and a puppy should have a total of 28 baby teeth.

The baby teeth for puppy are only around until the age of 4 to 5 months for your puppy. At this age, most puppies will begin shredding their baby teeth and by the age of 7 to 8 months, all permanent incisors, canines, premolars and molars should have erupted. Most breed of adult dogs will have 42 teeth.

Simply put, puppy teething is a normal process where baby teeth are starting to come out. There will be some teething symptoms and at this age, you need to take good care of your cute puppies, just like what we need to do to our babies. When your puppy has grown to an adult dog, it’s encouraged to brush the teeth of your dog starting from young so that your pet will be leading a quality life free of disease.
