teething symptoms relief

Infants or babies will start the teething period at the age of starting from six months. At this time, the teeth will start to grow out of the tooth buds. During this teething period, most infants or babies will show some common teething symptoms. Many parents are usually worried about their child when common teething symptoms suddenly shows up. Some parents who do not have the knowledge of teething might get too worried and do not know what to do when the teething symptoms get serious. But rest assured that usually some teething symptoms such as minor fever, drooling, gum swelling, lack of appetite and chewing are very common and exist in most infants and they pose no harm to your child. The seriousness of infant teething symptoms depends entirely on the babies reaction to the discomfort, soreness or pain caused by teething.

In situation where your babies drool excessively, the important thing is to keep your baby clean most of the time. By that, be prepared to stick to very strict hygiene rules such as do not let the child’s face or area near the mouth get wet for too long as this increases the risk of developing irritations, rashes and even infections. The amount of drooling depends entirely on the infants where you will not have control over it. Some babies drool very frequently while others drool little. Therefore, what you need to do is to help your child as much as your can to cope with this teething symptom by carefully wiping the saliva off the face, and eventually using some fat but gentle baby cream on certain cheek areas to kill off the bacteria to avoid rashes or infection around the mouth.

For gum swelling, you can give your baby a special teething ring to chew. Letting your baby to bite on the hard surface could reduce the pressure in the gums which then relieve the discomfort caused by teething. The rings can be made of metal, plastic or rubber, but you need to be careful that there be no detachable parts that can be accidentally swallowed by your baby. Another way of alleviating the soreness of the gums is by using some special gels and powders designed for pediatric usage.

Teething symptoms of infants normally last only a short period of time such as a few days to probably a week the most. All that symptoms of crying, gum swelling, redness and irritability will stop once the teeth have erupted through the gums. To relieve the soreness and pain, you could gently massage the gums with a piece of cloth that has been chilled. Moreover you can also let the baby to bite on teething toys. Most teething toys can be refrigerated to make it cold to sooth the gum of your baby when they bite on it. Beside, letting the baby to chew on your fingers could help soothe the baby gums which improves its overall health condition and mood. However, when the condition of teething symptoms should get serious, you should seek the help of a pediatrician.

Most often many parents are too worried when they notice changes in the behavior of their baby. As mentioned above, these teething symptoms are normal as this is part of the teething period. Your child will react to these teething symptoms as something is bothering them. For example, some babies scratch their cheeks or pull their ears. They do so as part of the pain in the gums can pass to the ears and the back part of the mouth. Irritability accompanied by crying is also frequently associated with teeth eruption. However, if you are not sure that teething is the problem that makes your child cry, contact the doctor immediately.

teething period and schedule

Most of the babies don’t have an absolute rule on teething period. The teething schedule can start as early as 3 months after its birth or as late as 1 year old for some babies. However there is a reference point in which you can take which serves as an average period for teething schedule. The average teething period starts at 6 months of age. Overall, the teething schedule depends on the baby’s personal structure, its individuality as well as its genetic information.

With that being said, there are cases in which the babies are born with teeth while others only see teeth after more than 1 year old. I want to stress this again that there is nothing unnatural about such cases. Moreover, you might hear some experts say that the teething schedule begins at five or six months of age and there are babies who already start teething when they are three or four months old. A later teeth eruption is also possible such as 1 year old and it is perfectly normal. Therefore, there is no reason to worry if you notice your child to be a bit different from the normal in terms of teething schedule.

According to a regular teething period, the first tooth to erupt is the inferior incisors followed by the superior ones. The front teeth are usually an issue around six or seven months of age, and afterwards, they are followed by the eruption of the rest of the teeth: lateral incisors, canines, premolars and molars. When the child is six or seven years old, the first adult teeth erupt with the loss of the baby ones. The change is less painful, particularly since the root of the baby teeth is dissolved and the gums are definitely ready for the transformation.

It is good practice for parents to jolt down the teething period of their children so that they can provide the information to both the pediatrician and the dentist. My advice is if you noticed any problem in the development of your child’s teeth such as excessive bleeding or irregular teething structure, do not ignore it just because these teeth are not permanent. Take your child to see a dentist so that future development of adult teeth will not be affected. Hence, a log of the teething period is important. Moreover the memory taken down will also have priceless sentimental value not only for your child but also for you.

Other useful tips on teething period are reading some practical books that provide guides for parents to raise their kids. These books should have guidelines on teething period and much more information on how to take care of your babies’ teeth. As a parent, you will be better prepared for this very delicate period of your child’s life. As we all know, the teething period is the rite of passage of every baby in this world. The more you know about the biological transformations involved in child growth, the more confident and calm you’ll feel when the time comes to actually do something to help your teething baby.
